Adriano Ficarelli, Jr, grew up in São Paulo, SP, Brasil, in an atmosphere of artists' family, as his grandpa the painter and decorator Bernardino Ficarelli (embryo of Santa Helena Group, 1933, São Paulo, SP, Brazil), his granduncle, the painter Ernesto Frioli.

Also, it was very important the influence from the vanguard music of his father's nephew, worldwide known composer Mario Ficarelli, the ceramic sculptures of his aunt Lídia Ficarelli, the pictures and drawings of his father Adriano, his uncles Túlio e Sergio Ficarelli. Contemporary, from his cousins Marcos Ficarelli (Brazilian rock pioneer, Top Sounds, Loupha, B12, Codigo 90 and Watt 69, and musical producer) and Lia Ficarelli, architect, sculptor and painter.

Since childhood, listening to operas, symphonies, rock, Gal singing Baby on the radio, on his father's photo laboratory, going through thousands of rare books inherited from his grandfather, and also, warmed up by the ceramic and porcelain oven where his mother Etta Nunn burnt flowers and landscapes. Adriano already felt the dimensions where the art language guide us to.

With a piano and a cracked body nylon guitar, at 14 (1968/69), use to "stole" his father 7 inches wheel tape recorder, two channels, and make his first free sound experiments and mixes, based on his light classical and intuitive music knowledge, also with knowledge of electronics acquired from his friend and late neighbor Alexandre Dantas do Amaral, finalist of the I National Choro Festival, Bandeirantes Records/WEA/Warner, 1977.

On the other side, with his friend Gerson Tatini ( Motto Perpétuo group 1971/1974 ), school friend, today a musician, sound engineer and electric bass collector, he learned how to send roses for a girlfriend and how to turn a simple walk into a surreal experience, and developed a particular way to write, make poetry and draw, which became a landmark and an intellectual journey with no return.Click to enlarge

After moving to São Vicente bay, SP, Brazil, at 1970, faced to the sea, new friends, there begins a solitary intellectual and spiritual journey. Acquire electronics knowledge and studied architecture. As a self-teacher learn harmony, poetry, drawing and photography supported by his late friend and poetry partner architect Milton Póvoas (Miltinho) with whom made some short movies and his "mentors", the architect and ambient technician Decio de Mello Freire and the writer Silvia Negreiros Freire.

His career began at early 80ths. Supported by his knowledge of electronics, he decided for the new technology by that time, the micro computers. Build 25 years of technical support career at two computer and one software manufactures. For Adriano, the diversity of situations and contact with thousands of people fed his creativity and spirituality.

Also at that time, hungry, he fed up with the eclectic Brazilian music, specially Nelson Ângelo and Tavinho Moura, jazz, vanguard erudite music, Berio, Phillip Glass and Lou Harrinson, classic music, rock, Laurie Anderson, Japanese music, and sudden with the fusion editions of ECM and EG Records, Terje Rypdal, Eberhard Weber, Jon Christensen and, Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Daniel Lanois, and 4AD editions as well.

After always considering his art as a natural expression like talk of gesture, the easy access to electronic musical instruments and multi-channels recorders, inspired Adriano by 1986 to make a return and try again to register his creations, or as he said, to see realized the natural ideas.

Between 1989 and 1991 build his first home studio in São Vicente e made a draft in two cassette tapes of his first ideas, with the help of José Perides and teh musician Dennis Walsh (Maestro) on writings and Marcelo Mariano playing (these last two from Moinhos dos Ventos group).

Between 1992 and 2000, with a new studio, computer controlled, encouraged by the argument and tips from cousin Marcos, and philosophic arguments with Dennis, the designer Marcelo and the architect Raquel Tourinho, Adriano produced and recorded several pieces, where he shows his philosophy, melt down harmony and poetry. The result was surprising and part of it is shown at ADRStudio.com since 1999.

Since 2001 he has his studio at West Palm Beach, Florida, is a internet consultant and devoloper, and helps his friend and sculptor Fernandez to spread out his work.

Adriano makes the maintenance of ADRStudio.com and still research and creates, and is entering in the land of digital movies, and says, his work have his own life and at each look you can see a new and different detail.

"A ball lost at the ocean means a abstraction"

Enjoy.
