ADRStudio.com I/O Setup - Audio Midi Video
Although it is a sophisticated home project digital studio designed to compose and arrange music as well to study and sound engineering, it is a low budget studio. Software are the most expensive parts.
My friends use to say that my studio is alive, that it grows organically, and may be it is true. At its birth was only a keyboard, a synth and a mixer. I keep adding stuffs always keeping in mind that everything have to go through any route and connect to anything.
Carefully analyzing all equipment available which matches my budget, new and old equipment, I choose the one that have best sound, more resources and is more flexible about connectivity. I never buy something that just do this and connect to that, exception to interfaces and switches, of course.
It was possible to design a full digital and at the same time a full analog, or mixed, project studio. MIDI automated (except mixers), everything can be routed to any patch and any equipment can work as digital or analog. And I just need to turn on what I need for a specific job or when I just want to play around.

The main "organs of this organism" are, what they call, "Swiss knives" of musical and studio equipment: the classic ALESIS QSR, the magic Behringer DEQ-2496, Roland M-1000 digital mixer and audio computer interface, Behringer MX-1604A analog mixer, the ALL-in-one BOSS SE-70 multi-effects and my computer. All described below.
Also important are the classic Roland SC-50 GM synth, the BOSS BR-532 digital recorder/MMC.
The accessories and interfaces are: Alesis AI-1, M-Audio Midisport 4x4, Alesis Nano Compressor, SmartMedia reader and S/PDIF selectors and switches.
I use a Miditech MIDIController with 12 Control Change Controllers as main Midi Controller and a Yamaha DD-5 Drum Pads. A Fender Squire Strat Guitar and a AKG D2300S mic.
A Yamaha A2070 PA is used to monitor and at the same time as independent video router, a pair of Alesis Monitor One MK2and a Behringer HPS3000 head phone.
Alesis QSR
A 64 voyce 16 parts synth, fully programable and spandable, has a build in Alesis Quadraverb 4 channel multi-effect. Has 4 channel 48 kHz/16 bits ADAT and 4 channel analog outputs.
Behringer DEQ2496
It is a mastering machine with a 61 Band RTA, 31 band GEQ, 10 band PEQ, 3 DEQ, WIDTH (stereo image processor), DYN, Compressor/Expander and Limiter with 96kHz and 24 bits processing. It is also a A/D D/A converter and is also full digital with S/PDIF (optical or coaxial) and AES/EBU I/O and has a Optical/Coaxial/Analog input switch. With the DEQ-2496 the dream came true !
Roland M-1000 digital Mixer
It has 4 digital and 1 analog inputs, and 3 analog and 3 digital outputs. It is a mixer with 96kHz/24Bits processing, A/D D/C converter, sample rate converter, and with USB I/O it is high definition computer Audio Interface. One of its input can be selected between Optical/Coaxial.
Behringer EuroRack 1604A Mixer
12-Channel + 6 stereo inputs, 2+2-Bus Mixing Console. Used for analog mixing, routing and monitoring.
Boss SE-70 Pro
The best ALL-in-one effect processor. I mean ALL. Roland sell it for just few months (after SE-50) and stopped, they might had discovered that it does to much for a single product (I mean, like a mistake). It process with 48/32 kHz 16 Bits, but only analog I/O. It is automated with SYS-EX . Read more about using SYSX or SYSEX with SE70.
Roland SC-50
The classic Sound Canvas. Careful tuned up with SYSEX messages, it generates personals and specials timbres. It has a extra MIDI input.
Boss BR-532 Digital Studio
4 tracks/32 Virtual tracks digital recorder with build in digital effects. It has a 48 kHz S/PDIF Optical output but just analog input. Music is transferred to the computer through memory card or Optical for digital mastering. The BR523 is also used as Transport Controller for MIDI sequencers and video editing (read more...).
Alesis AI-1
It is a digital format and/or sample rate converter and switcher. Converts 48 to 41 or 41 to 48 kHz and convert ADAT to S/PDIF or AES/EBU or vice versa. I use it split the ADAT from QSR to S/PDIF and as a switcher. It works with and convert any input to 16 bits.
Miditech MIDICONTROL
This touch sensitive 49 keys keyboard was one of the first to have Control Change controllers ( has 16 ) which are very usefull realtime controlers for Alesis QSR. With the help of "Midi Translator" by Florian Bömers ( www.bome.com ) I can also control all my Midi equipment. Ex.: I have real time control of SC-50, as a Synth, controlling attack, release, cutoff frequency, etc.
Yamaha DD-5
It a usefull toy. It has 4 touch sensitive drum pads. I think I had never listened to its sounds, I only use its MIDI connection. It boring to assing the key the pads, but for the 15 boxes I paid for it is ok.
Fender Squire Strat
Not a Stratocaster, but works with the same precision and gives me nice nice sounds.
Mics: AKG - D2300S
Analog Tape: TASCAM Porta Studio 3
MIDIMAN USB MIDISPORT 4x4
A necessary interface to expand connections.
Alesis Nano Compressor
Gives that touch ...
